The MBA Games is an annual tradition that brings together hundreds of MBA students from across BC & Canada to compete in academic, sport, and spirit competitions.

The Canada MBA Games were started in 1988 by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and the trophy given to the winning team is still called the Queen’s Cup. The BC MBA Games, held in October, were started in 2015 to carry on this tradition in BC and are a perfect warm-up for the Canada MBA Games in January.

Both Games are one of the best highlights of the MBA Program. Compete with your classmates in Academic, Sport, and Spirit competitions while getting to know them outside of the university atmosphere and networking with top MBAs from across BC and Canada. Each fall, the 1st year full-time MBA students elect 2-3 people to be the MBA Games Representatives to organize teams for the MBA Games.

MBA Games Captain: Rishabh Jha

Meet the Captain!

Hello there, let me introduce myself - I'm Rishabh Jha, a seasoned consultant with a knack for problem-solving and project management. Over the past six years, I've delved into the dynamic world of consulting with the Big 4, gaining exposure to a multitude of industries and projects. This journey has honed my problem-solving skills and equipped me with robust project management capabilities.

Beyond the boardrooms and client meetings, I find solace in the realm of sports. A true sports fanatic at heart, I've dabbled in various athletic pursuits since my school days. Whether it's the thrill of football, the finesse of tennis, or the agility demanded by badminton, I've always had a fervor for competition. In fact, I proudly served as the sports prefect during my school years, basking in the camaraderie of a sporting environment.

But my interests don't end with sports alone. I’ve also been a fervent advocate for the performing arts, actively participating and competing in various capacities throughout my academic journey.

MBA Games Club

Now, let's talk about a passion project close to my heart - the MBA Games Club. This club isn't just any run-of-the-mill student organization; it's the epitome of pride for our university. At its core, the MBA Games provide a platform to showcase not only academic prowess but also athletic abilities and creative flair.

But here's the twist – it's not all about the big national stage. Here at UBC, we infuse the MBA Games with our own special flavor. We seize the opportunity to foster camaraderie and team bonding right here on our home turf. Picture this: hosting our very own games within the cohort, right here in the heart of Sauder School of Business. It's a chance to bring together individuals with diverse skills and backgrounds, uniting them under the banner of friendly competition and shared fun.

And let's not forget our shining legacy at the BC Games! UBC has a strong credibility in the BC games where it has won multiple years in a row, adding a thrilling layer to our journey. But our ambitions don't stop there. We're not just about dominating locally; we're about making a mark nationally.

But wait, there's more! Ever heard of a mini-Olympics right in the MBA Lounge? Well, get ready, because that's exactly what we're cooking up. Imagine the thrill of battling it out with your cohort members in a series of lighthearted yet fiercely competitive games. It's all about promoting fun activities and fostering a sense of community across programs, all while unleashing our inner Olympians.

So, buckle up, because with our sights set on victory, there's no telling how far we'll go. The journey promises to be exhilarating, filled with adrenaline-pumping moments, and memories that will last a lifetime. Welcome to the MBA Games Club - where academic prowess meets athletic excellence, and the spirit of competition reigns supreme, both on the grand stage and in our own backyard.

BC MBA Games Winner

2019 - BC MBA Games

The 2019 BC MBA Games were hosted at the University of British Columbia. The theme was “Industry 4.0” with a focus on how the circular economy, sustainability, and technology will affect future business practices.

The UBC Class of 2021 came in second place, representing the university well with their hard work, grace, and fun spirit. The difference between 1st and 2nd place was only one point! In individual events, UBC placed first in the Amazing MBA Relay, the nonprofit case competition, and the strategy case competition.

2020 - National MBA Games

The 2020 MBA National Games were held at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. UBC placed 7th overall out of 17 business schools from across Canada.

Special congrats go to the NHL E-Games team that finished in 3rd place; the strategy case team (Katie, Neil, Rakhim, Shweta) for advancing to the finals; the Dodgeball team with an amazing record of 5-1 (Aarón, Ahmar, Basil, Ben, Jayant, Justin, Rohan, Saurabh, Steven, Sujesh, Swarnaskshi, Vallen); to Hannah for choreographing an awesome dance, and again to Justin who was named MVP of the E-Games for his sportsmanship and inspiring others (representing the true UBC spirit)!

Special thanks go to all team members that made the trek out east and to all of the MBAs and Sauder Staff that supported us with fundraising, cheers, and well wishes!
