Club Mission
The MBA Finance Club provides a bridge from the academic world at the Sauder School of Business to professionals in the community. This is achieved by leveraging faculty resources, engaging in network events, industry training workshops, and most importantly, in raising the profile of the Finance program at the Sauder School of Business.
The Club partners closely with the MBA Office, alumni, as well as the other Clubs in order to provide mutually beneficial opportunities. The Club is open and does welcome students from other fields than Finance, who simply wish to gain a greater exposure to the world of Finance, be introduced to the world of the financial markets, and other current topics in this field.
Education and Modeling Workshops
In an attempt to provide hands-on technical training, the Club looks to recruit both industry and educational professionals, licensed to offer workshops in high level Excel modeling, Bloomberg, and other such analyst software, and such tools. The Club offers additional educational resources through the promotion of professional associations.
Speakers Series
A central objective to the Club, the Speakers Series, will offer students a venue to learn outside industry knowledge and experiences. Speakers will be invited to talk about current trends, structured Finance deals that may be involved with, or the latest topics in Finance in their field of expertise. This will create a forum of learning and enable students to make more educated choices about their future career paths in Finance or business in general.
Networking
A fall networking event is in the planning stages as a means to provide students a link to key professionals in the Vancouver community. Face-to-face contact is the best method to gain access to career or other potential business opportunities. Our Club is constantly driven by this theme.
Course Development
In tandem with the MBA Office, the Club seeks to provide Finance students with unique and career-relevant course offerings. New courses such as Project Finance are currently being considered for future programming. The Club wishes to provide students with the necessary tools and up-to-date course selections, in order to remain competitive in the financial environment.
