President - Jon Mains President@MBAsociety.ca

Jon originally reigns from the Greater Toronto Area. He did his undergrad at The University of Western Ontario in Biology. After a short stint working in downtown Toronto, he spent five years in South Korea working in the ESL industry as a Program Manager for a large English education corporation. Jon spends much of his free time involved in the community: helping to create South Korea’s largest foreigner recreational baseball league, wearing annual moustaches during the month of Movember, and running the MBA Society. With the rest of his free time Jon is a big skier, loves biking, and is especially fond of the Grouse Grind.

Ron has four years of experience as a project manager in the hospitality industry, organizing international conferences. Prior to his MBA studies, Ron completed a BSc at UBC in Cognitive Systems. In his spare time Ron enjoys running, travelling and reading non-fiction.

Originally from Ontario, Carolyn completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from UBC and worked in not-for-profit sport management in the lead up to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. In 2008 she moved to Melbourne, Australia and spent the next 4 years in sport & event management, managing PGA golf tournaments and coordinating business development opportunities to attract new participants to sport. Carolyn enjoys experimenting as an amateur chef, playing outdoors, snowboarding and cheering for the Vancouver Canucks.

Glyn worked part-time in the Retail Banking industry while she was pursuing her BSc degree in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Upon graduating, she worked for 3 years with the Edmonton Police Victim Services Unit before returning to the Bank, where she worked for 3 more years before pursuing her MBA. When Glyn is not studying for quizzes, writing case memos, or doing other homework assignments, she makes good use of her mathematical and psychological skills at the poker tables. She also enjoys playing volleyball, dodgeball, and board games in her spare time.

Mark Huvenaars grew up in rural Southern Alberta. After graduating from the University of Lethbridge with an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Mark pursued a career in digital marketing with a university near Atlanta, GA. After spending two years in “The South,” Mark returned to Canada to follow opportunities in the emerging field of social and digital media consulting. In his spare time Mark is running, hiking, sailing and exploring Vancouver with friends.

Holly graduated from the University of Washington in Architecture and Construction Management. She then worked as a project engineer building large commercial construction projects around Seattle. Needing a change of scenery, she moved North to Vancouver to attend Sauder and gain an “international” perspective on life. Her academic interests are varied from real estate to brand management. When not at school, you’ll find her at the mountain.

Ravi is originally from Grande Prairie, Alberta, and in 2007 completed his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He moved to Vancouver soon after and spent the next five years working for BC Hydro in a variety of roles ranging from technical engineering to Project/Program Management. He is a practicing professional engineer in both BC and Alberta. In his free time Ravi enjoys travelling (especially to watch sporting events), snowboarding, golfing, and he is a diehard fan of the Vancouver Canucks.

Tom was raised in the Eastern United States and received his undergraduate degree in Political Science at SMU in Dallas, TX, but has spent the majority of his professional career working in China. Prior to moving to Vancouver to attend the UBC MBA Program, Tom worked as a processing manager at a business process outsourcing company specialized in the insurance industry. He helped the company build part of their corporate university and has also worked as an English teacher and in volunteer management. Tom is an avid traveler who also loves watching professional sports and scuba diving.
