Mark Chen - President

Mark has lived a third of his life in Shanghai, Vancouver, and Boston.  He was originally trained as a researcher in biochemistry at UBC and MIT, and later applied his training to consulting in the life sciences.  He is currently the Associate Director of Advanced Analytics at Model N, helping clients in sales and marketing roles make better business decisions through predictive modeling and data analytics.  In his spare time he enjoys volleyball, tennis, skiing, poker, competitive ballroom dancing, powerlifting, and volunteer work at school and around the community.  When the opportunity arises, he also likes to apply his research knowledge and analytical background to cooking, baking, and whisky tasting.


Jen Bok - VP Internal

Born and raised in Toronto and completed her BBA specialized in Marketing at York University Schulich School of Business. Worked in merchandising for 5 years and has worked as a buyer for general merchandise products. She loves being around people, gets excited about good food, is addicted to coffee, likes to de-stress with hot yoga, and newly enjoys hiking since moving to the west coast. She believes it is important for businesses not only to make profits but also a positive social impact.


Kate Lafferty - VP External

Kate is a professional engineer with seven years’ experience in the mining and metals industry. She has expertise in production optimization, process development, and project management in both research and operational contexts. Originally from BC, she enjoys new adventures and cultures having spent time living and working in Hungary, northern Alaska and central Newfoundland (Yes b’y). Kate is excited to be back in Vancouver to explore the ocean and mountains with her international colleagues.


Born and raised in China, Chloe completed her BBA specialized in Accounting at University of Prince Edward Island. She then moved to Toronto and spent three and half years in public accounting. She completed her CMA designation with CPA Ontario as an Senior Accountant prior to MBA. Instead of examining the past as an accountant, she desired to influence the future as a strategist. She loves traveling and she believes that life is an adventure.


Julie Hommik - VP Academic

A Toronto-native that decided to try out the West Coast vibe, Julie came to UBC with over 4 years of experience in the management consulting world. Her projects were focused on sales and marketing consulting for pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies. Prior to working, she completed her undergrad in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto. As a past-competitive figure skater, she’s now trying her hands out with the Sauder Sharks hockey and ultimate Frisbee teams. She also really likes food and coffee, lots and lots of coffee. So much so she hopes to one day be working and making a difference within the food and coffee industries.


Abdullah Jawass - VP Student Development

Grew Up in Dubai, UAE. Moved to Halifax, NS in 2006 to complete my bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.  Worked in the Oil and Gas sector in Alberta for the past four years. Involved in both Engineering and Sales roles. Continuing my journey to the west and now in Vancouver for my MBA program. Abdullah enjoys soccer, swimming and exploring new restaurants in his spare time.


Geoff Pringle - VP Communications

Geoff grew up in Toronto and earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of King’s College. He had worked at the Royal Bank of Canada for several years as an Account Manager before deciding to pursue his MBA at the UBC Sauder School of Business. His interests include sports, cooking, dressing up as a pink bunny and singing karaoke, and teaching people about the wonders of history. As the VP of Communications Geoff is responsible for keeping the class up to date with what is going on and many other totally awesome things.


Mike Butler - VP Events

As VP Events, Mike's role is ensuring the class has ample opportunity to form relationships and have fun together outside of the academic environment.

From Toronto (pronounced "Chrawna" by locals), Mike completed his undergrad at Queen's University in Math & Economics. Since then he naturally went on to work as a touring country music artist, an analyst in the pension world, and a leadership development coach in outdoor education. Aside from navigating his way through the Entrepreneurship & Innovation track in school, Mike encourages any incoming students to join him on the intramural sports teams and the Sauder Gives Back squad.
